Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza Versions Ranked (and Which to Buy)
Buy the original Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza first, and add On the Flip Side if you want a second box. Those two are the only versions that really change how the game plays together. The 8-Bit, Poolside and seasonal editions are worth buying for a theme, a trip or a gift, but they aren’t upgrades.
Dolphin Hat Games has released a lot of editions since the original, and new ones keep coming, so this ranking covers the main ones on sale now. We’ve played the original about a dozen times. The other editions are ranked from their published contents and descriptions rather than our own plays.

1. The Original — The One to Buy First
The original Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is the one to start with. It has 64 cards, the five-word chant, and the three special cards, Gorilla, Narwhal and Groundhog. It seats 2–8, ages 8 and up, and a game takes about ten minutes. It’s the version we’ve played about a dozen times with our board game group, and it’s the one every other edition builds on. Our full review gives it 5/5 on both scores.

2. On the Flip Side — The Best Second Box
On the Flip Side is a standalone game that can also be shuffled together with the original. It adds three new special cards, Panda, Moose and Flapjack, and a twist where some cards are printed upside down. When a reversed card matches the word, players slap with the back of their hand instead of the palm, a twist designed to catch out players who know the original. It’s listed for 3 or more players and about ten minutes.

3. 8-Bit Edition — A Retro Twist
The 8-Bit Edition gives the game a retro video-game look and, according to its distributor, a “reversed twist” that changes how you play. It keeps the 2–8 player count and the 8-and-up age. Buy it if you like the retro art or want a twist that differs from On the Flip Side.

4. Poolside — The Waterproof One
The Poolside edition is made to survive water, for the pool, the beach or the lake. The game is the same, which makes it the obvious pick for summer trips where a paper deck would get ruined.

5. The Seasonal Editions — Halloween, Christmas and Easter
There are Halloween, Christmas or Holiday, and Easter editions, each themed for its season. The Halloween edition is sold as playable on its own or combined with the original, and the Easter edition keeps the 2–8 players and 10–15 minutes of the original. They play much like the original with seasonal art, so buy one as a holiday gift or a stocking stuffer rather than as an upgrade.
