Every Monopoly Deal Version Ranked (and Which One to Buy)

Monopoly Deal versions ranked, from the original and the meaner No Mercy to Harry Potter, Stitch, KPop Demon Hunters and NFL. Only one plays differently.

Every Monopoly Deal Version Ranked (and Which One to Buy)

There are more Monopoly Deal versions than most people realize, but only one of them plays differently. Every themed edition, Harry Potter, Stitch, KPop Demon Hunters, NFL and the World Cup, is the original game with new art and new names on the sets. Monopoly Deal No Mercy is the exception, with new cards and a debt system that changes how the game feels.

So the ranking is simple. Buy the original first, add No Mercy if you want it meaner, and pick a themed version only if the theme is what gets your family to the table. This ranking is based on the published rules and contents of each version, plus outside reviews where they exist, rather than our own plays of every edition.

1. Monopoly Deal (the Original) — The One to Buy

The original Monopoly Deal is the one most people should buy. It has 110 cards according to Hasbro’s official card list, seats 2–5, plays in about 15 minutes, and has been in print since 2008. BoardGameGeek’s Monopoly Deal page has the full edition history. Every themed version below is built on this deck, so if you know these rules you know them all. Our Monopoly Deal review covers whether it’s worth it, and our rules page explains every card.

2. Monopoly Deal No Mercy — The Only Version That Plays Differently

No Mercy is the only version that changes the game rather than the pictures. It’s a 120-card deck with 15 debt chips, still for 2–5 players and about 15 minutes. The action cards are much more aggressive, including cards that take most of a player’s bank, and a set can be stolen far more easily than in the original.

The debt chips are the big change. In the original, if you can’t pay, the rest of the debt is forgiven. In No Mercy, you hand over a debt chip, and on your next turn you have to give that player a card from your hand before you play anything. Meeple Mountain’s No Mercy review found it more interesting than the original because the swings make it harder for one player to run away with the game. Buy it as a second deck once the original feels too predictable.

3. Monopoly Deal Harry Potter — The Best Themed Version for Fans

The Harry Potter edition swaps the property sets for Harry Potter–themed ones, but it plays the same core game, for 2–5 players in about 15 minutes. It’s the pick for a household of Harry Potter fans, where the theme gets people to the table who wouldn’t pick up the original.

4. Monopoly Deal KPop Demon Hunters — The One the Kids Are Asking For

The KPop Demon Hunters edition launched on January 1, 2026, as the first game from Netflix and Hasbro’s partnership. You collect item sets for Rumi, Mira and Zoey instead of properties, and the first player with three complete sets wins. It plays in about 15 minutes, and for a kid who loves the film it’s an easy way in.

5. Monopoly Deal Disney Stitch — For Younger Disney Fans

The Stitch edition replaces properties with items from Stitch’s world, like his spacesuit and a surfboard, and the first player to three complete sets wins. It’s for 2–5 players, ages 8 and up, in about 15 minutes. Like the other themed versions, it’s the original game with new art.

6. Monopoly Deal NFL — For Football Families

The NFL edition has you collecting teams instead of properties, with all 32 teams in the deck, and the first player to three complete sets wins. It’s rated 8 and up. If your family argues about football anyway, it gives the argument a game.

7. Monopoly Deal FIFA World Cup 2026 — A Collector’s Pick

There’s also a FIFA World Cup 2026 edition, released for the 2026 tournament. It’s the same game with a soccer theme. Buy it if you’re a soccer fan who wants the theme, and otherwise stick with the original, which is easier to find and often cheaper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best version of Monopoly Deal?

The original. Every themed version plays the same game with new art, so the original is the easiest to find and learn. No Mercy is the best second version because it’s the only one that plays differently.

What is the difference between Monopoly Deal and Monopoly Deal No Mercy?

No Mercy has 120 cards instead of 110, more aggressive action cards, and debt chips. If you can’t pay a debt, you give a debt chip and must hand that player a card from your hand on your next turn, instead of having the debt forgiven.

Do the themed Monopoly Deal versions play differently?

No. The Harry Potter, Stitch, KPop Demon Hunters, NFL and FIFA World Cup editions use the same core rules as the original. They replace properties with themed sets and change the art.

How many players can play Monopoly Deal No Mercy?

Two to five, the same as the original. It’s rated 8 and up and plays in about 15 minutes.

Can you mix two Monopoly Deal decks?

The official rules are written for a single deck. Mixing two different versions can work as a house rule, but the themed sets won’t line up with the original’s property colors.
