Is Love Letter Worth It? Our Honest Review
“A sharp little dagger of a game, filler by design”
Read the review →
Love Letter is 21 cards in a velvet pouch, and it is still the first thing we throw in a bag before a trip. Rounds end fast, somebody gets knocked out by a Guard guess that had no business landing, and everyone immediately wants to play again. We gave it 5/5 Bamboo and 4/5 Pandas, and this category holds everything we have written about it.
Our honest review makes the case for it as a complete deduction game built out of almost nothing, and it is clear about who should skip it. Before you plan a night around it as a couple, read the player count breakdown, because it does work at two thanks to the official face-up card setup, but it peaks at three or four and you should know that going in.
The skill in Love Letter sits almost entirely in your Guard discipline. Our strategy guide goes card by card through the Guard guessing math, when the Baron is worth the risk, and why playing the Handmaid early usually wastes it. If you are picking just one pocket game, Love Letter vs Coup sorts out the difference between deduction with gentle luck and bluffing with knives out.
